Man Utd to overhaul defence with four key signings & four departures under Jim Ratcliffe plan

Manchester United (Man Utd) is poised to revamp its defensive lineup following the anticipated investment from incoming minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The Premier League is yet to ratify Ratcliffe’s 25 percent stake in the club, but preparations for the petrochemicals billionaire’s involvement are already in motion.

Ratcliffe, expected to take charge of football operations at Old Trafford, is likely to receive approval for his deal in February.

INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford has been engaged in meetings at Carrington during the transitional phase, working on appointments for crucial recruitment roles.

Football director John Murtough and manager Erik ten Hag are reportedly strategizing the club’s summer transfer activities.

Reports suggest that a significant overhaul of United’s defense is on the horizon, with three players set to depart and three potential replacements identified.

Raphael Varane’s future is uncertain, with claims that United opted not to extend his contract by one year. As a result, the World Cup winner could leave the club for free in June.

Additionally, Jonny Evans, brought in as short-term cover at the season’s outset, is also out of contract, while Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire may reportedly exit if substantial offers materialize.

United is rumored to be considering Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo as potential replacements for the departing defenders.

The club is also reportedly eyeing Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey, who impressed in Champions League clashes against Ten Hag’s men this season.

In a proactive approach, United is said to be closely monitoring players whose contracts expire in June 2025, aiming to capitalize on situations similar to Mason Mount’s arrival from Chelsea when he entered the final year of his contract.
