Rio Ferdinand blasted Harry Maguire for his lack of commding presence at the defence as Manchester United conceded a silly goal to Burnley.
After Ben Mee beat Nemanja Matic in the air, Maguire was beaten to the ball by Chris Wood who flicked the ball past David de Gea in the Manchester United goal.
Solskjaer’s side have struggled defensively from set-pieces this campaign and it was their undoing again in the first half, although some poor finishing from their frontline didn’t help matters either.
And Ferdinand was critical of Maguire, who replaced Ashley Young as club captain, for failing to show leadership qualities when it really mattered in the game.
‘Go up and win it,’ Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport at half-time.
‘Show the desire to win the ball. Someone has to go in there and be commanding. Maguire, you’re the captain.
‘The first ball isn’t really the problem. It’s the second ball. What are you doing there, Maguire?
‘He’s in a great position but what happens? He doesn’t ancipate it. You cant be that far off. He gets in front of him and gets punished.
‘Just get against people, rough people up. You’ve got to make it difficult for people. That’s too easy.’
