Rio Ferdinand has blasted Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho for coming up with “a lot of excuses” for his team’s poor run of form.
Spurs were winless in five games heading into Tuesday’s second leg of their Champions League last 16 with RB Leipzig and entered the game off the back of a 1-1 draw with Burnley.
Having criticised his lack of options due to injuries to the likes of Kane and Son Heung-min, Mourinho went on to criticise club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele.
Ndombele has struggled for form and fitness this campaign and went off at half time against Burnley and the Portuguese manager said that the midfielder should be working harder.
Speaking to BT Sport ahead of the game with Leipzig, Ferdinand spoke on how he believes Mourinho is beginning to lose Tottenham dressing room.
“The manager’s interviews after games will not fill [the players] with confidence,” the pundit said.
“I don’t think so [about Mourinho’s tiredness claim]. There are a lot of excuses. He (Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves) has not been coming up with that. Hammer me in the changing room but he’s doing it publicly and losing people.”
Elsewhere, Glenn Hoddle called for Jose Mourinho to come up with a plan to get Tottenham out of their current form.
“We have heard all of his excuses. Mourinho needs to come up with something. Communication has failed with [Tanguy] Ndombele. I think there is a player in there,” he said.
Youngster Oliver Skipp was also taken off in the game against Burnley and Peter Crouch said: “He has given them excuses.
“Taking [Olivier] Skipp and Ndombele off was not great. I don’t think criticising as openly as he has done is great.”
