Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is closing in on a move to Chelsea and is increasingly hopeful they will move to apppoint him as the new boss.
Sarri became the front-runner for the Stamford Bridge job after Luis Enrique’s wage demands priced him out of a possible move.
However, Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new boss of Napoli after Sarri’s sack.
Sarri’s current deal at the Stadio San Paolo was supposed to expire in 2020, but Napoli have now moved to sack him.
And reports have suggested Zenit offered Sarri £3.5m a season to come to Russia after the exit of Roberto Mancini. But it is understood Sarri has his heart set on a transfer to Chelsea and has put on hold any agreement with the Russian club.
The outgoing Antonio Conte could take a break from football should Chelsea decide to sack him. Despite winning the FA Cup last Saturday, Conte is still expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Should he decide do so, Chelsea will pay £9m in compensation for the final year of his contract, however he will not be given the compensation should he take another managerial job.
Meanwhile, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed Sarri sack on Twitter saying:
