Ancelotti responds to Man Utd approach after being recommended by Ferguson

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti would be open to taking the Manchester United job this summer and has long held a desire to take over the reins at the club, according to reports.

United’s hierarchy are beginning to ramp up their efforts to sign a permanent manager, with the likes of Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino the two big names on their llist.

But this week another name emerged, with ESPN claiming that Sir Alex Ferguson has recommended Ancelotti to the Red devils board.

Now The Transfer Window Podcast claim that contact between Ancelotti and United was made over two weeks ago by new chief executive Richard Arnold.

The Italian coach was told that United see him as an experienced leader and proven winner who can work with the team as it currently is and get the best out of the players.

Ancelotti’s relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo is also seen as a huge selling point, with the duo having enjoyed plenty of success at Real Madrid together.

There were even rumours over the summer that Ancelotti wanted to bring Ronaldo back to Santiago Bernabeu, though they could not afford a deal and it was United who swooped in.

Ancelotti has not rebuffed United’s interest and has listened to their approach, while he believes he can make a difference in the current circumstances and with the current team.

According to those close to the former Everton boss, he has a long-held ambition to manage United and was even approached personally by Ferguson when the Scot was sounding out possible successors before retiring.

Ancelotti is not unhappy at Real, but his future at the Spanish club could be taken out of his hands if Real are eliminated out of the UEFA Champions League against PSG.

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, was said to be far from happy with the nature of the club’s performance in their first-leg defeat against the Parisians and could pull the trigger.

If that were to happen, Ancelotti would become an attractive proposition for United as he would be available without compensation.
