John Barnes has snubbed Manchester United and named Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea as his three favourites to win the Premier League.
The Red Devils were Man City’s closest challengers last campaign, finishing 12 points behind Guardiola’s side.
United look set to mount a serious title challenge this season after a summer in which they re-signed Cristiano Ronaldo and brought Jadon Sancho and Varane to the theatre of dreams.
But Barnes overlooked United when identifying his favourites to lift the title, instead naming City, Chelsea & Liverpool as his three best teams in England.
‘Chelsea definitely have enough to challenge for the Premier League title this season,’ Barnes told BonusCodeBets.
‘They needed a focal point up front to bring people into play and hold the ball up, which they’ve now done with signing Romelu Lukaku.
‘Timo Werner can really benefit from Lukaku especially when he’s playing in one of the wide positions.
‘They’ve got a great manager who they really respect, and I think Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea are the favourites.
‘Interestingly, Manchester City getting Grealish doesn’t improve them that much. They have a few players already who practically the same in Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden. They really need a centre-forward which they didn’t get.
‘Chelsea and Liverpool are closer to Manchester City now, simply because they didn’t get Harry Kane.’
