Bayern have ‘secret weapon’ to sign Xabi Alonso which will worry Liverpool

Bayern Munich might possess a hidden advantage in their pursuit to outmaneuver Liverpool for Xabi Alonso.

As we approach the final months of the 2023/2024 season, the spotlight will inevitably fall on Bayer Leverkusen’s manager Alonso.

This anticipation stems from his team’s strong performance in the Bundesliga, coupled with ongoing rumors linking him to Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Liverpool, in search of a replacement for Jurgen Klopp following his recent announcement of departure, are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Similarly, in Bavaria, Thomas Tuchel has announced his impending departure from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Alonso’s name has surfaced in connection with both clubs due to his commendable managerial achievements at Bayer Leverkusen.

According to reports from Caught Offside, German journalist Christian Falk suggests that Bayern might possess a clandestine strategy to entice Alonso to join their ranks.

He wrote in the report: “It is no longer a secret that Xabi Alonso is the top candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp. But FC Bayern now also has Alonso as number one on their wish list.

“The fact that Tuchel is still allowed to be coach until the summer also has to do with the fact that Bayern is waiting for Alonso.”

Falk added: “The Bayern bosses are self-confident because so far they have gotten every coach they wanted. Even Pep Guardiola.

“They have a trump card in former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Because Rummenigge always kept in touch with Alonso and is considered a confidant of the Spaniard. So Liverpool have got a serious competitor.”

Speaking about his future, Alonso said: “To be honest I am not in this moment thinking about the next step. I am thinking about where I am right now and I think I am in a great place which I enjoy.

“I’m going to be happy if we play well and deserve to win. What’s going to happen in the future… I don’t know and I don’t really care at the moment. Speculation is normal, my focus is here on Bayer Leverkusen.”
