Petr Cech picks his three greatest goalkeepers of all time

Petr Cech has identified the three greatest goalkeepers in his view who have ever graced the game.

The Czech goalkeeper is esteemed as one of the finest in the Premier League era, having guarded the posts for both Chelsea and Arsenal in over 633 matches in England’s top tier.

He clinched the Premier League title twice, achieved Champions League glory with Chelsea, and retains the record for the most clean sheets in a single Premier League campaign.

Yet, during an interview with Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher queried Petr Cech to disclose his selection for the top three goalkeepers in history.

‘A first question, a tough question, but definitely I put Gigi Buffon in there’, Cech said as he ran down his chosen trio.

‘Definitely put Neuer will be in there. It’s always difficult to leave so many great ones out, but Peter Schmeichel will be my choice in there as well.’

The Sky Sports pundit further probed the 41-year-old, inquiring whether the chosen three were arranged in the correct sequence, to which Cech provided clarification.

‘Yeah, probably. I would say so.’ He added. ‘There are two World Cup winners, so maybe they just get that order’.

Buffon secured the World Cup victory for Italy in 2006 and recently concluded his remarkable career at the age of 45, spanning nearly three decades.

With over 1100 professional appearances to his name, Buffon holds the record for the most Serie A games played.

Manuel Neuer, following Buffon’s path, triumphed in the 2014 World Cup with Germany and is revered for revolutionizing his position.

Neuer, now 37, remains Bayern Munich’s stalwart and current captain, boasting eleven Bundesliga titles since his 2011 debut.

Peter Schmeichel, Cech’s final selection, is hailed as a Premier League icon and played a pivotal role in Manchester United’s early dominance in the 1990s.

Since retiring from football in 2016, Cech has embarked on a new sporting journey as an ice hockey goalkeeper.
