David de Gea hits out at Man Utd teammates after Everton defeat

Manchester United’s goalkeeper David de Gea has blasted his teammates after they lost 1-0 at Everton on Saturday afternoon.

United were favourites heading to Goodison Park and although they started well, with Jordan Pickford making two great saves to deny Marcus Rashford, a first-half goal from Anthony Gordon rattled the away team and from then on Everton held firm to claim a vital three points.

Although United had won just one of their last six games, they were fully expected to sweep aside a relegation-threatened Everton team who had lost six of their last seven league matches.

This is the latest in a long line of pooe results the Red devils have suffered this campaign, and it leaves them seventh in the table, three points off the top four despite having played a game more than Arsenal and Tottenham.

Speaking to BT Sport post-match, De Gea said: ‘We knew before today they were struggling and how difficult it was going to be.

‘We don’t score, we don’t even create proper chances to score. I don’t know what to say, to be honest. We’re not good enough, that’s for sure. It’s going to be very difficult now to be in the top four.

‘Of course, it’s not the perfect atmosphere. They were tired, they were nervous, but they keep going and keep fighting. They had more desire than us, which is not acceptable. It’s very sad to lose today.’

The Spanish keeper has been one of United’s better players this season and will no doubt be demanding more of his teammates ahead of their next matcg when they host Norwich City at Old Trafford.
