Emiliano Martinez gives verdict on Arsenal goalie Ramsdale & his wild celebrations

Emiliano Martinez has heaped praises on Aaron Ramsdale for his rise, and believes the Arsenal goalkeeper’s exuberant celebrations are a ‘good’ thing.

When Arsenal agreed a deal worth £30m in the summer to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United, there was huge criticism from sections of the north London club’s fanbase.

Much was made of the fact that the 23-year-old had been relegated twice in two consecutive campaigns, but he has proven many wrong with his outstanding performances for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Ramsdale has won the favour of Arsenal supporters not only with his goalkeeping, but also his character and leadership while on the pitch.

When discussing Ramsdale’s passionate celebrations with Watford keeper Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video, Martinez said: ‘It’s good. The fact that I know what he’s been through as well. He played in League One, League Two, Championship, he was relegated from the Premier League. He has been through a lot.

‘Now, he’s winning every game and fighting for [a place in the] Champions League. ‘He doesn’t know what to do with himself [while celebrating], he’s sliding, jumping in the air, you know. He deserves it.’

Ramsdale has even been labelled the ‘signing of the season’ by former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere.

‘I was probably like a lot of the Arsenal fans. I was a bit, ‘god, did we really need to spend £30 million on Ramsdale?’,’ Aliadiere told BonusCodeBets.

‘You expected, not obviously bigger on money because £50 million for Ben White, it’s a lot of money, but you expected bigger names, more proven players at the top level?” ‘But I must say, I was completely wrong.

‘For me, Ramsdale is the signing of the season. He’s been amazing, has kept us in so many games. If you think about all of the saves that he’s made, if he wasn’t there, we wouldn’t have been near the top four, for me.’
