Erik ten Hag drops huge hint over his future amid possible Man Utd transfer

Erik ten Hag has dropped a massive hint over his future amid speculation linking him with the job at Manchester United.

The Red devils are on the hunt for a permanent successor to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked last month after a disappointing run of results that left the club in eighth place in the league table.

Newly-appointed interim manager Ralf Rangnick will be in charge until the end of the campaign, when the club hopes to then hand over the reigns to the next permanent head coach.

Ten Hag is believed to be among a number of leading candidates for the role, alongside PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino and Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.

The 51-year-old has guided the Dutch club to two Eredivisie titles and two domestic cup wins since joining in 2017.

He also helped the club reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2018/19, only to lose to Tottenham in a dramatic second-leg tie in Amsterdam.

But despite his success at Ajax, Ten Hag has now conceded that he thinks he’s ready to leave the Netherlands in order to take on a new challenge.

‘I think I’m ready for it. I would be happy to take on that challenge,’ he told de Volkskrant.

‘But I’m not chasing it. If it turns out that that step will never come, I will not say that my coaching career has failed. ‘But I think I have enough competences to take on that challenge.’

It is believed that Ajax would not stand in the way of Ten Hag if he wanted to join United, because they understand his desire to progress his career.
