Erik ten Hag identifies replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been identified by Manchester United as a possible replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo as Erik ten Hag plans for life after the Portugal captain.

The 37-year-old attacker could leave Old Trafford in January, having been denied his wish to do so last summer window.

Ten Hag wanted to keep Ronaldo due to a shortage of options in attack but the player’s performances have not warranted his decision, with Ronaldo scoring just three goals so far this season.

Regardless of whether he leaves in January or not, United are determined to sign a new centre forward and expect to spend a huge amount of their budget on one next summer.

The Red Devils have been drawing up a shortlist of targets and the Manchester Evening News claim Osimhen is high on the list.

The Nigerian striker is the top scorer in Serie A so far this campaign with nine goals in 13 appearances.

Napoli are currently top of the Italian league and have eyes on winning the league title for the first time since 1990.

That means United’s chances of landing Osimhen in January are highly unlikely, meaning any move would have to come in the summer when the Nigerian will have two years left on his contract.

United spent up to £220m last summer and they don’t expect to spend anywhere close that amount in 2023.

That means a major part of their budget will be spent on a striker and Osimhen is valued at around £100m.
