Bruno Fernandes equals Frank Lampard’s Premier League record

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has equalled Chelsea legend Frank Lampard’s goal record after scoring a penalty in Manchester United’s Premier League 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

United made this known in a post via its website on Monday. Goals from Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani gave them all three points against at Villa Park.

The Portugal international’s strike against Aston Villa was his 27th goal of the campaign for the club.

And, No midfielder in the Premier League has scored as many goals since Lampard found the net 27 times for Chelsea in the 2009/10 campaign

Just like Former blues player Lampard, Fernandes has scored many penalties and his teammates said he never disappoints when called upon.

Greenwood told MUTV: “We always knew Bruno would put it in the back of the net,” while Luke Shaw also spoke about the 26-year-old practising penalties in training.

“I knew Bruno was going to score the penalty,” Shaw said. “We practised them yesterday after training, me and him, for about 20 minutes, so if he didn’t score, I would have got at him! I’m there just to push Bruno along, to make sure he’s not being sloppy!”

If Fernandes can score three more goals before the end of the season, he will be the first Red devils player to hit 30 goals in a campaign since Robin van Persie in the 2012/13 season.

Meanwhile, it took Cristiano Ronaldo 149 matches to hit the same tally of 27 goals for the United. It’s taken Fernandes only 76 games to do so.

The Portuguese playmaker moved to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020. He will hope to continue his impressive form for Man United when they play Leicester City on Tuesday.
