Getafe manager reveals what Mason Greenwood said to receive straight red card

Getafe coach Jose Bordalas disclosed the words Mason Greenwood used with the referee, resulting in the forward’s red card.

In Tuesday’s match at the Civitas Metropolitano, Getafe aimed to stay in contention for the top six in La Liga against Rayo Vallecano.

Despite their efforts, Rayo Vallecano emerged victorious with a 2-0 score, courtesy of Sergio Camello’s two goals.

In the game, Getafe found themselves with only nine players as Juanmi Latasa received two yellow cards in the first half, followed by Mason Greenwood’s straight red card in the 50th minute.

At that moment, Greenwood seemed to utter something to referee Jorge Figueroa, resulting in his dismissal.

Getafe manager Bordalas later disclosed what the Englishman communicated to the official in the post-match discussion.

He said: “The player told me that he said ‘don’t f*** with me’, only that.

“It was in frustration but at no point has he insulted anybody.”

Bordalas added: “It was a comment, ‘don’t f*** with me, why won’t you blow (the whistle).”

Having embarked on a season-long loan to Getafe last summer, Greenwood shifted his career away from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old is reportedly relishing his time in Spain and has recently been associated with a potential move to La Liga powerhouse Barcelona.

The Sun suggests that the Catalan club is resolute in their pursuit of the English forward.

A source told the publication: “Barcelona are hugely interested in Greenwood, and are determined to bring him in.

“Right now, they are leading the race and are at the front of the queue. Scouts have watched Greenwood and have been tasked with deciding if he fits in with Barcelona’s style of play.

“The overwhelming view is that he does, and that he would be a strong addition to the squad.”
