Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has revealed that his new team-mates were furious with him when he joined the club.
Giroud signed an 18-month deal with Chelsea for an undisclosed fee in the January transfer window and he has scored five goals in his opening 17 appearances for Antonio Conte’s team.
Just a few months before joining Chelsea, Giroud set up Aaron Ramsey’s winner for Arsenal in the final of the FA Cup against his current team.
The France international is determined to add to his winner’s medal collection when Conte’s men face Manchester United this weekend at Wembley.
Speaking to Standard Sport ahead of the game, Giroud said: ‘When I arrived in January they were still a bit angry with me but I said, “I hope we will carry on the momentum because I can beat any team at Wembley and I will be your lucky charm — let’s hope we do it”.
‘I have been unbeaten at Wembley since 2012, obviously first with Arsenal and then with Chelsea for the semi-final.
‘Hopefully I will be unbeaten after the final, too. It’s a nice record and I want to keep it up.’
Giroud believes that Chelsea have the quality to beat United at Wembley.
He said: ”I don’t agree with the people that are saying that Manchester United are favourites. It is 50-50.
