Lampard identifies Germany star as striker solution at Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly set to open talks with Bundesliga side Freiburg over a deal for their striker Luca Waldschmidt.

The 23-year-old has scored six goals in 16 matches for the German club this campaign, but his season has been affected by several injuries since October.

At the European Under-21 Championship last summer, the Freiburg striker ended as the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals and was nicknamed ‘Il Bomber’ with reference to Germany legend Gerd Muller.

Luca Waldschmidt was subsequently given his senior debut for the Germany national team and now already has three caps.

According to The Sun, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been monitoring Waldschmidt’s progress and he is keen on signing the forward.

The report claims that Chelsea are now set to discuss a £20 million deal with hia club Freiburg. It’s also claimed that the blues believe Waldschmidt will improve ‘when he learns to use his physique’.
