Frank Lampard to be sacked by Chelsea today, Thomas Tuchel lined up as replacement

Frank Lampard is expected to be sacked by Chelsea today less than 24 hours after their FA Cup win over Luton Town, with Thomas Tuchel primed to replace him.

The former Chelsea player has spent 18 months at Stamford Bridge and he impressed during his first full campaign as manager, guiding the blues to fourth in the Premier League despite a transfer ban.

But, after a decent start to the current season, Chelsea’s form has collapsed over the last two months and they’ve won only one of their last five games in the Premier League.

That’s left Chelsea 9th in the Premier League table, on 29 points at the halfway stage of the season and owner Roman Abramovich has now decided to sack Lampard, according to the Telegraph.

The report claims the Chelsea squad have been told not to show in training this morning as Lampard meets with the club’s hierarchy.

It comes just 24 hours after the London side beat Luton Town 3-1 in the FA Cup to progress to the next round and Lampard had been expected to be given at least the next two matches against Wolves and Burnley.

However, Chelsea’s place in the top four is under huge threat and they face a clash against Atletico Madrid in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Despite his reputation with fans for his heroics as a player at the club, Lampard’s win percentage is currently the lowest of any coach in the Abramovich era.

The blues spent around £225m last summer while their rivals struggled with the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic, signing the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell.

Thomas Tuchel is now expected to replace Lampard at the club, with the former PSG boss keen to make an immediate return to management, the Athletic reports.

Tuchel made his name at Borussia Dortmund, ushering in a brand of fast-paced, high-press football that made the Germans one of the finest clubs to watch in Europe.
