Pochettino gives Levi Colwill injury update after huge scare in Chelsea vs Wimbledon

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Levi Colwill is fine despite the player limping off in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory against AFC Wimbledon at Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old, who has been impressive for Chelsea in the opening stages of the season, looked to be struggling just over the hour-mark in the club’s Carabao Cup game, with the score at 1-1.

Colwill tried to continue but was taken off by Pochettino and the defender headed straight down the tunnel.

But, Pochettino believes Colwill will be okay for the weekend when Chelsea face Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

The Argentine manager said: “No [is Colwill injured]. Ice on his ankle but it is not going to be a problem.”

Chelsea limped through against Wimbledon and will now face Brighton in the third round of the competition.

James Tilley had given the visitors a shocking lead at Stamford Bridge from the penalty spot after Robert Sanchez was deemed to foul Harry Pell.

But the Blues were level in the first-half. Noni Madueke’s solo run forced a foul inside the box and the winger stepped up to take it and level the match before half-time.

Chelsea then took the lead not too long after Colwill was taken off, and the goal came through substitute Enzo Fernandez.

The Argentina international took advantage of a mix-up at the back from the Dons to shoot into an open goal.

Fernandez’s goal was enough for the West London side to get through to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Next up for Chelsea is the trip of Nottingham Forest at the weekend as they get back to Premier League action.
