Real Madrid want Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager after Zinedine Zidane’s decision to leave, according to Sky Sports.
Though, Real have not spoken to Pochettino and sources close to Tottenham have revealed that no buyout clause exists in Pochettino’s new five-year contract, which he signed just last week .
Those sources also deny rumours that there is a verbal agreement for Pochettino to be given permission to talk about a La Liga move.
Zidane resigned from Real Madrid on Thursday, just days after winning his third successive Champions League with a 3-1 win over Liverpool in the final.
The Frenchman said Real Madrid needed a “new voice” in the dressing room but denied any suggestion that his decision was influenced by players in the dressing room.
Gareth Bale, who scored a brace in Real’s 3-1 win over Liverpool and Cristiano Ronaldo have both cast doubts on their future at the club after lifting the trophy.
Pochettino was asked about links with Real Madrid and he said: “I live in the present, there is nothing more important than that.
“I enjoy what is happening and what has to be, will be. (Former Argentina international) Jorge Griffa once told me that I must let football take me, that I do not want to change my destiny.”
Pochettino also confirmed that there is no release clause in his contract saying: “No there is not. Neither written nor verbal.”
Earlier this year, Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claimed that Madrid president Florentino Perez had identified Pochettino as top choice to replace Zidane.
Arsene Wenger has also claimed he was offered the opportunity to manage Real Madrid on several occasions.
“Wenger has said no before, but now he is out of a job,” Balague told Sky Sports.

“The interest in Pochettino from Real Madrid is obvious for all to see. He is the type of manager they would like to have at Real Madrid at some point.
“He has a new contract at Spurs, he is linked to everything that is happening for Spurs around the decisions of the players, it does not seem obvious for him to leave right now.”
