Mourinho watches Marko Arnautovic in Austria action amid £50m transfer links

Jose Mourinho was spotted at a friendly between Austria and Russia on Wednesday, amid rumours that he is targeting a move for Austrian star Marko Anautovic.

The West Ham forward has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Mourinho looks to bring in signings for Manchester United behind Romelu Lukaku.

The pair previously worked together at Inter, when Arnautovic was on loan from Twente, but the transfer did not work out.

He only appeared in three Serie A games as a substitute, with Mourinho claiming the striker had “the mentality of a child” and said he was “unmanageable”.

However, the 29-year-old Arnautovic has showed quality since then, scoring 11 goals last campaign for West Ham after making a £20m move from Stoke City, where he had been for his past  four seasons.

He also added six assists in his 31 Premier League games and it was the second time in three seasons Arnautovic had scored 11 goals and made six assists.

Those statistics have led to speculation Mourinho could seek to sign him to play with Lukaku after United’s lack of depth behind the Belgian was proven in the 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

And Mourinho’s presence at a friendly in which Arnautovic started is likely to pour more fuel on the rumour despite Mourinho claiming he was only “on holiday”.

However, if Mourinho was there to have a look at the Austria international, the forward made an impact for his national side as he laid on the assist for Alessandro Schopf’s first half opener which proved to be the winner.
