Pochettino breaks silence on Tottenham sack after being replaced by Jose Mourinho

Mauricio Pochettino has broken his silence on his sacking at Tottenham after being replaced by former United boss Jose Mourinho.

The popular Argentine manager led Tottenham to four successive top-four finishes in the Premier League and took the club to the Champions League final last season.

He lost his job after a poor start to the 2019-20 season, however Mourinho was subsequently named as his replacement.

In a statement released by League Managers Association, Mauricio Pochettino said: ‘I would like to thank Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy for giving me the opportunity to be part of Tottenham Hotspur’s history.

‘I would like to thank also everyone I met at Tottenham, all the club staff and the football players during these five and a half years.

‘Finally I would like to give a special mention to the fans who make this club so great with their fantastic support.

‘I gave the best of me to accomplish the objectives I was asked for in our first meeting. There were equally tough challenges as exciting success.

‘Best wishes for the future, I am sure we will cross paths again.’

Since his dismissal at Tottenham, Pochettino has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.

Gunners hero Paul Merson has urged his former team to bring Pochettino to the Emirates, telling Sky Sports: ‘Arsenal should go for Mauricio Pochettino.

‘He’s not won anything, but he improved Tottenham over five years, tenfold. He’s a top manager and he is about at the moment.

‘These top managers don’t come along too often, where you don’t even have to pay anything for them. Can I see it happening? No. Should it happen? Yes.’
