Manchester United players Paul Pogba and Amad Diallo carried a Palestine flag around Old Trafford during their end-of-season lap of honour after the 1-1 draw with Fulham.

United played in front of 10,000 supporters as the easing of lockdown restrictions in England allowed for the return of a small section of fans to stadiums.

The Red devils were playing their final home game of the campaign, though still travel to Wolves on Sunday in their final league match and then Gdansk for the Europa League final against Villarreal.

It is customary for players to walk around the pitch after the game and Pogba held a Palestinian flag as he did so, with Diallo joining him later on.

Pogba has already showed his support for Palestine on social media, writing last week: ‘The world needs peace and love. It will soon be Eid. Let us all love one another #PrayForPalestine.’

Asked about Pogba and Diallo’s show of support, Solskjaer said: ‘Well I think we have players from different backgrounds, different cultures, different countries and I think we need to respect their views if they differ from someone else’s.

‘If my players think about other things than football that’s a positive thing and we’ve seen that with some of the players before that they do care about [things]. Look at Marcus Rashford, the difference he’s made. So we respect their right to have a different view.’

After Leicester’s FA Cup win over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, Wesley Fofana and Choudhury also displayed a Palestinian flag as they received their winners’ medals.

Although political messages resulted in punishments for players in the past, The Athletic claim that Pogba, Diallo, Fofana, Choudhury and anyone else who displays a Palestine flag will not face any punishment.
