Ruben Amorim responds to reports he’s agreed deal to become Liverpool head coach

Ruben Amorim has refuted recent speculations that he had sealed a deal to become Liverpool’s new manager, clarifying that he hasn’t engaged in any discussions with the club about taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

The 39-year-old, celebrated as one of the most promising young coaches in European football, has been identified as the frontrunner to fill Klopp’s shoes, following the Liverpool legend’s announcement of his departure in January.

Initially, Xabi Alonso was the favored choice for Liverpool after his impressive managerial debut, but he has recently reaffirmed his commitment to remain with Leverkusen for the foreseeable future.

Last week, Amorim sparked uncertainty about his tenure at Sporting and ignited speculation about a move to Anfield, as he could not ‘guarantee’ his position with the team by the next season’s start.

However, a report by Sky Germany claiming that Amorim had verbally agreed to a three-year contract to manage Liverpool was swiftly followed by Amorim’s own categorical denial at a press conference today.

And the Sporting boss emphasized that no conversations with Liverpool had taken place.

‘I did not meet Liverpool for any interview and there’s no agreement, it’s not true,’ he told reporters ahead of Sporting’s Primeira Liga clash with Gil Vicente.

‘I’m Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn’t meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.’

Amorim called on the media to stop questioning him over his future, with the Sporting manager determined to remove any distractions as his team look to beat champions Benfica to the Portuguese league title.

‘Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future,’ he added.
