Antonio Rudiger seeks talks with next Man Utd manager before deciding Chelsea future

Antonio Rudiger is stalling on a decision on his Chelsea future because he wants discussions with the next Manchester United head coach, according to reports.

The defender is out of contract with the London side in the summer and is yet to agree a new contract but has plenty of interest from clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and United.

The Blues also can’t currently tie Rudiger down to a new long-term contract after being sanctioned by the UK Government, leading to the player to consider his options and United appeal.

German sports journalist Christian Falk claims Rudiger ‘would like to talk’ to United’s new permanent boss before making a decision on whether a move to Chelsea’s Premier League rivals would suit him.

But, he could be waiting a little while longer with the Red devils still in the process of trying to find Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent replacement.

Reports claim Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has already been interviewed for the job while PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is still under consideration.

Rudiger will be hoping an announcement is made before the end of the campaign so he can put pen to paper with a new club at the start of the summer transfer window, should he call time on his spell in west London.

United look set to be on the hunt for a new central defender in the summer amid Harry Maguire’s poor form and Rio Ferdinand was recently asked who his former team should be targeting.

‘I would sign Marquinhos,’ Ferdinand told Vibe with Five. ‘I would sign the Uruguayan at Barcelona [Araujo].

‘There are moments in careers, and Harry Maguire is going through it now, where everything you seem to do there seems to be a problem or a mistake.

‘Every mistake you make gets punished and highlighted. Sometimes, I went through my career where I was making mistakes, but they didn’t score, the keeper pulled me out of it or [Nemanja] Vidic made a tackle.

‘That is what happens in teams. Maguire needs a little bit of luck to get out of this dip in form that he is having right now.’
