Shakhtar coach blasts Pochettino for wasting Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk is encountering challenges at the club, and according to Shakhtar Donetsk assistant manager Carlo Nicolini, it stems from the Blues being perceived as a ‘team of individuals.’

Nicolini contends that Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s manager, has struggled to foster a cohesive team dynamic.

Mudryk made the move to Chelsea from the Ukrainian club last January in a transfer valued at approximately £89 million, opting for the Blues over rivals Arsenal, much to the delight of West London supporters.

However, the winger has faced difficulties settling at Stamford Bridge, managing only two goals in 28 appearances for the club. This contrasts with his performances for Ukraine, where Mudryk is a key figure.

In a crucial match on Monday, Mudryk was denied a late penalty as Ukraine drew 0-0 with Italy, resulting in the Italians securing a spot in next summer’s European Championships at the expense of Ukraine.

Addressing Mudryk’s contrasting performances for Ukraine and Chelsea, Nicolini, Shakhtar’s assistant boss, suggests that the team setup at Stamford Bridge is not conducive to the winger’s abilities.

‘Chelsea is not a team, individual players struggle there,’ he said.

‘In the national team, you can see the real Mykhailo Mudryk, he can do even more.’
