Solskjaer identifies three signings who will partner Maguire next campaign

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already identified three defenders in his search for a centre back to partner Harry Maguire in the club’s backline.

United spent £80m on the signing of Maguire last summer and the former Leicester defender has already improved the Red devils’ defence and has even been made the club captain.

United’s form has improved drastically since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in the January window and for the first time since Ferguson’s retirement it appears Solskjaer’s side needs little changes rather than a major overhaul.

A defender to partner Maguire is considered to be one of those changes and Solskjaer is in the market for a physical, fast defender to play with the England international.

According to ESPN, Solskjaer has a three-man list which consists of Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake, Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings and Alessio Romagnoli.

Solskjaer appeared to tell Nathan Ake that he needs him at United after Saturday’s 5-2 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford. After bumping fists with the former Chelsea star, he told the 25-year-old: ‘Good luck’,

Ake replied, ‘Cheers, thank you’, before Solskjaer told him: ‘We need a left-footed centre-back, so keep going’.

The Dutchman has two years left on his current deal at the club but Bournemouth are facing relegation and he will likely be sold if they go down.

Manchester United will play Aston Villa on Thursday, and Solskjaer will be able to have a look at Mings first hand to see if he’s fit at Old Trafford.

Romagnoli has long been linked with a move to United and the Italian would likely command the biggest fee out of the three defenders if Solskjaer was to sign the player.
