Solskjaer responds to rumours Pogba has rejected Man Utd contract & will join PSG

Solskjaer on Pogba

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that Paul Pogba will be part of his Manchester United team next season despite rumours he has rejected a new deal.

The midfielder’s current deal expires next summer, and recent reports claimed he had turned down an extension that would have made him the highest player at United on £350,000-per-week.

The Red devils do not want to risk losing him for nothing for a second time – with Pogba having joined Juventus on a free transfer as a teenager – and there are reports he could move to PSG in a £50m deal.

But Solskjaer has refused to confirm or deny that Pogba is edging towards an exit away from the club, saying he is not part of the contract talks.

When asked if Pogba has snhbbed a contract extension – and whether United will need to sell him – Solskjaer said: ‘There’s always speculations about Paul.

‘The talks between the club and Paul’s representatives, I’m not in the detail of every single one of them so I’ve got nothing to say really about that.’

Probed further on PSG’s interest, Solskjaer added: ‘There’s always speculation about Paul and there’s always clubs being interested.

‘Of course, we’ve seen Paul at his best and Paul knows what we feel about it. And of course I’ve enjoyed my time working with him and hopefully we can work together.’

Asked if Pogba could leave United on a free transfer for a second time, Solskjaer said: ‘That’s speculation again. Let’s see what happens.’

United have already signed Jadon Sancho and are working on a deal to sign Raphael Varane, though Solskjaer feels the improvements his team need to make cannot come from only new signings.

‘We need to improve on every little aspect of the game,’ he said after shipping four goals against QPR. ‘We know there’s loads of things we can improve on.

‘Defensively we conceded too many goals, set-plays is an area that we’re working on. And of course always you never say a team is complete. It’s always dynamic, and there’s always moving parts, and we’ve got to be ready all the time for the changes in the game, or changes if there’s an injury or anything we need doing in the squad.’
