Solskjaer reveals the three qualities that convinced him to sign Van de Beek

Solskjaer on van de Beek

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Donny van de Beek can add an extra dimension to his midfield ahead of next season.

The Red Devils confirmed the signing of the 23-year-old midfielder on Wednesday, with Van de Beek penning a five-year contract at the club.

Van de Beek becomes United’s first signing of this summer, adding to an impressive midfield which has players like Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Matic, while Fred and McTominay provide good back-up.

Despite the many options, Solskjaer was keen to add more quality to his midfield and he says Van de Beek has three more qualities that the other midfielders lack.

‘Donny has all of the technical attributes needed to perform in this team and has the personality required to succeed at Manchester United,’ said Solskjaer.

‘His ability to see space, time his movements and read the game will really complement the qualities that we have in midfield and his arrival really strengthens the depth of talent we have in that position.

‘Donny’s performances in the Eredivisie and in Europe have been excellent over the last few years and we are all looking forward to working with him’.

Solskjaer now has the huge task of trying to deploy Van de Beek into his midfield alongside the likes of PaulbPogba and Bruno Fernandes.

Van de Beek is at his best in the final third but the Dutchman is also capable of playing as a no.8 in a box-to-box role.

Solskjaer played the same starting lineup towards the end of last campaign and he wanted to address his squad’s lack of depth in the transfer market, hence the signing of the former Ajax star.
