Fernando Torres names current Liverpool player he’d loved to have played with

Fernando Torres, the iconic former Liverpool player, expressed that teaming up with Trent Alexander-Arnold would be an honor.

Despite being out of action due to a knee injury since January, Alexander-Arnold’s season has been remarkable, boasting two goals and 10 assists across 29 matches.

As the Reds’ deputy leader, he has been instrumental in securing the Carabao Cup victory, and his contributions have propelled Liverpool to the forefront of the Premier League and made them the top contenders for the Europa League title.

Regarded by many as the premier right-back in global football and one of Liverpool’s all-time great defenders, Alexander-Arnold’s prowess is undeniable.

Torres, an admirer of his skills, was even captured on video sporting an Alexander-Arnold jersey during a workout session.

Explaining his choice, the former striker told Liverpoolfc.com: ‘I think Trent is a special player for the supporters, also for me as a former player. It’s really nice to see young players develop the way they are doing and become one of the main players in the first team.

‘I’m sure Liverpool fans love him because he’s one of them and he’s playing on the field at the level he’s doing. It’s similar to what I did in Atletico [Madrid] – from the stands to the pitch and I always felt I was special for the fans.

‘I’m sure Trent is feeling exactly the same. He’s a Scouser playing for the first team and being important, one of the main players.

‘For all of us, he’s a special guy. I managed to get his shirt and I like to put it on to do some training.

‘I always think it would be so nice to be able to play with him and receive these kind of crosses he does. It would be a pleasure to play in the same team as Trent and be ready to head those crosses. I think it could be a good connection.’

During his tenure at Liverpool, Fernando Torres found the net 81 times in 142 appearances, leaving supporters to wonder about the potential tally had Trent Alexander-Arnold been supplying him.

At just 25, Alexander-Arnold has already notched up 58 assists in the Premier League for the club he grew up supporting, trailing only behind Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah.

Anticipation is building for Alexander-Arnold’s return from injury in early April, which could align perfectly with the pivotal match at Old Trafford against the storied adversaries, Manchester United.
