Thomas Tuchel has called upon the Chelsea board to bring an ongoing saga to a close after surprising figures were reported to be preventing a breakthrough in Antonio Rudiger’s deal.
Chelsea made no secret of their desire to land a new centre-back over the summer. Sevilla’s Jules Kounde was frequently linked, though the deal failed to materialise.
The London side’s defense has arguably been the strongest and most critical component of Tuchel’s success at Stamford Bridge.

But, several of their first-team defenders are in the final years of their contract, most notably Antonio Rudiger.
The Germany international will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas teams in January. And Bayern Munich, PSG and Real Madrid have all been credited with interest in the player.
According to reports, Real’s desire to land Rudiger is very strong, the idea of accelerating their plans and making a January raid has been touted.
The Express claims Tuchel has spoken with Chelsea’s board. And they cite ‘sources close’ to Rudiger that claim the Blues head coach has ‘urged’ the club to ‘tie down a deal soon’.
But while the he is doing his part, a set of surprising figures are cited that are currently hindering progress. Rudiger is reported to be earning £100,000-per-week. That figure is less than the likes of Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek.
Furthermore, it’s believed Chelsea have offered Rudiger new terms with a pay-rise included. But, the increase was just £25,000 – a small reward given Rudiger’s importance to the team.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have reportedly joined the chase for RB Leipzig midfielder and Manchester City target Christopher Nkunku.
