Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane wants a transfer to Manchester United wrapped up within the next two weeks, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly made Varane a major defensive target for the Red devils, seeing the Real Madrid centre-back as the perfect partner for Harry Maguire next campaign.
Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign Varane from Lens some years ago, before Zinedine Zidane – the then sporting director of Real Madrid – pursuaded him to join the Spanish side instead.
They are also reported to have come close to making an £100m offer for Varane after his performances in France’s successful 2018 World Cup campaign.
But this summer, some report claim United are ‘close to finalising’ a £40m deal for the France international after agreeing a transfer for Jadon Sancho.
Other sources have reportedd that the Red Devils are on the ‘final offensive’ for Varane but others have warned about a possible long process to finalise a deal, including Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano said: “Manchester United are in contact with Real Madrid for Varane. No official bid yet – won’t be a “quick” deal.
“Personal terms won’t be an issue – Real still hope to convince Varane to stay, but he wants to try something new. He’s on top of #MUFC list as CB since months.”
However, Spanish newspaper ABC claims that Varane wants everything sorted out in the next fortnight as he doesn’t want to start pre-season at Santiago Bernabeu.
Varane is keen to play for United with a pre-agreement already struck between the player and club, which would see him earn €12m a year on a five-year deal. And It’s a big increase on the €7m a year that the Los Blancos are ready to pay if he signs a new deal.
