Conte reveals who is to blame for Salah sale and responds to Martial to Chelsea speculation

Antonio Conte has distanced himself from Chelsea’s decision to sell Mohamed Salah in 2016.

Salah had his first taste of Premier League at Chelsea but struggled to make an impact under the then manager Jose Mourinho.

The Egypt international was sent on loan to Roma and made his move permanent in the summer, shortly after the arrival of Conte at Chelsea.

But Conte says he had no involvement in the sale of Salah.

Asked whether the club asked for his opinion before selling Salah, Conte said: ‘No, I have never spoke about this because I think the situation was clear.

‘No one asked me about him, I don’t want to take this responsibility! I would be in trouble.’

Under Jurgen Klopp, the Egyptian has scored over 40 goals, winning the PFA Player of the Year award and helping Liverpool reach the final of the Champions League.

‘I think this season for Salah is fantastic,’ Conte added. ‘We are talking about a really good player.

‘I knew him in Italy but to wait for this type of season, it will be very difficult to predict this type of season for him.

‘He’s a player with special characteristics, good technique and very fast. This season I’m seeing a very clinical player, every opportunity, every chance he takes.’

When asked about Anthony Martial, Conte said:

‘I think this is not the right moment to speak about this.

‘I don’t like to talk about players of other teams this is disrespectful for the players other players and the other club. Our focus is to finish in the best possible way.’
