Loris Karius has hit back at fans who mocked him for making another series of mistakes in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund.
Jurgen Klopp’s side took the lead in North Carolina through Virgil van Dijk but eventually suffered a 3-1 defeat against their Bundesliga opponents.
For Karius, it was another game to forget as the German made an error in each half and was criticised by Liverpool fans during the game.
The first mistake came after just four minutes as Karius came racing from his area but his poor clearance fell straight to Maximilian Philipp, whose shot towards an empty goal from 40 yards could not hit the target.
Karius’ second mistake came in injury time when Liverpool were already 2-1 behind.
Christian Pulisic’s shot from close range was straight at Karius, but the 25-year-old parried the ball into the path of Jacob Bruun Larsen, who scored to seal Dortmund’s 3-1 win.
After the match, the German goalie took the opportunity to hit out at Liverpool fans who have begun to mock him for his mistakes.
‘To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you,’ Karius posted on Instagram.
‘Whatever it is that’s happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray it passes and good things come to you.’
Karius now faces a tough battle to retain his place as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper following the arrival of Alisson from Roma last week.
