Chelsea refuse to bow to Sarri’s demands over David Luiz contract

Chelsea defender David Luiz has conceded he’s no closer to signing a new contract at the club with the Blues unwilling to offer him more than a year deal.

The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the campaign but is happy to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge after rediscovering his form under new head coach.

However, Luiz is unhappy with Chelsea’s policy of only issuing one-year extensions to players over the age of 30 and wants a contract longer in length if he’s to sign a new deal.

Sarri is keen for the club to re-think their policy as he wants to keep Luiz and Cesc Fabregas who is also entering the final six months of his contract.

But the club have intimated that they are not willing to do so according to the Guardian and Luiz has admitted he’s no close to agreeing a new deal.

‘We are still talking, let’s see. Let’s see what the future brings,’ said Luiz.

‘I love this club, everybody knows I want to stay.’

Luiz was speaking after his Man of the Match display in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

The 31-year-old scored Chelsea’s second in the win to end City’s unbeaten run.
