Julian Nagelsmann to take over at Chelsea immediately after ‘positive talks’ with Blues

Julian Nagelsmann is prepared to take over at Chelsea immediately after positive talks with the Premier League club.

The German coach, who was relieved of his duties at Bayern at the end of March, is among those in contention to take over from Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have now reached out and made contact with the 35-year-old, along with Luis Enrique with the two considered the early favourites for the job.

It was believed that Nagelsmann’s preference was to take a break and wait until the summer before committing to a new project.

But, Sky Germany now claim he would be ready to take over immediately.

Meanwhile, talks between Chelsea and Nagelsmann’s representatives are ‘ongoing and positive’.

Were the club to move forward in negotiations, the London club would be needed to pay compensation to bring him to the club as he is still contractually bound to the German side, despite removing him as head coach.

Nagelsmann sees managing in the Premier League as a next step in his career and is also wanted by Tottenham after the exit of Antonio Conte.

Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto di Zerbi and Rúben Amorim are also among the candidates Chelsea have been keen to interview for the vacant role.

However, the Brighton head coach is reportedly not interested in taking over in London and remains committed to the project at the AMEX Stadium.

Sporting head coach Amorim meanwhile says he wants to stay at the Portuguese club.

The 38-year-old, who has a release clause of around €10 million (£8.7m) in his deal with Sporting, says he is ‘very happy’ at the club and has no desire to leave.

‘The main factor is because I really like being here. And then, I’ve seen many coaches move to other leagues and not be happier,’ Amorim said on Tuesday.

‘‘It sounds a bit cliche, but I think it’s an important factor in the decision [to be happy]. And I’m not looking for anything.’
