What Erik ten Hag told Man Utd stars moments before McTominay scored

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave his players a team talk shortly before they opened the scoring against Sheffield United.

The Red Devils led in Yorkshire thanks to Scott McTominay’s opener, before the midfielder gave away a penalty which Oli McBurnie converted to ensure the Blades went in level at the break.

Ten Hag’s side were on top for most of the second half and looked more likely to score, going close when Sofyan Amrabat rattled the woodwork.

Manchester United eventually got back in front thanks to Dalot’s curling effort from outside the box, which secured all three points at Bramall Lane.

But fans would have spotted an intriguing moment between Ten Hag and his players just over 20 minutes into the game, when United goalkeeper Andre Onana needed medical treatment.

It led to a break in play in the clash and gave United boss Ten Hag the chance to speak to his players after watching his team start poorly against the newly promoted club.

The team talk clearly helped, as the club went in front through McTominay’s strike only minutes later.

Dalot has now revealed what the United head coach told his players during the break in play.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Dalot said: “It was a good opportunity for us to adapt a little bit because we were not in the right positions, especially without the ball, we had to sort it out quickly. I think we did that straightaway after he called us over.

“This is the type of opportunity that we have to take, sometimes during the game it’s difficult for the manager to get to 11 players but unfortunately with Andre going down we found a way to speak to him.”
