Lionel Messi told his Barca team-mates they must not repeat the mistakes of their famous collapse to Roma before his team’s game with Liverpool at Anfield last May.
Liverpool were trailing the Champions League semi-final tie by three goals after the first leg at the Camp Nou and Barcelona were favourites to progress.
Messi had played a key role in the first match and tried to rally his team-mates in the dressing room before the second leg at Anfield.
A new documentary, Matchday: Inside Barcelona FC, has revealed what really went on behind-the-scenes at the club last campaign.
Liverpool would pull off an outstanding recovery at Anfield, winning 4-0, and Lionel Messi’s speech to his fellow Barcelona teammates has now been released.
‘Come on people. We are going to take a step forward,’ Messi said to his team-mates.
‘We can’t waste this opportunity, OK? ‘Give everything, now that we are here. We have to start strong. Remember, Rome was our fault. Nobody else’s.
‘We mustn’t let the same thing happen. It was our fault and nobody else’s.’
Before the collapse against Liverpool, Barcelona had suffered a similar fate against Italian team Roma the previous season.
Further footage showed the silence of Barca players at full-time and even revealed Jordi Alba was almost in tears at half-time in the dressing room.
