Bruno Fernandes has been left ‘annoyed’ at both Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon over his failed transfer move – but is still hoping to make the move to Old Trafford.
Fernandes has emerged as the Red Devils’ key target this month, with under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to boost his midfield options.
But United’s pursuit of the midfielder looks set to end in disappointment, with the Premier League side unwilling to meet Sporting’s demands for a deal in January.
The Times report Fernandes has been left ‘annoyed’ with the conduct of both Sporting and the Red devils during talks but still wants to secure a move to United as soon as possible.
Discussing Bruno Fernandes’ future this week, Jorge Mendes told Sky Sports: ‘I don’t know what will happen to Bruno, honestly I don’t know.
‘If he doesn’t leave now, for sure he will leave in summer. Sporting have been talking to other clubs, I’m not sure what will happen if he will go now or at the end of the season.’
During United’s pursuit of Fernandes, Arsenal legend Paul Merson urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to scrap the move and sign Jack Grealish instead.
‘Forget Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United should be trying to sign Jack Grealish,’ Merson told Starsport.
‘He is one of the top ten players in the Premier League right now. He is absolutely different class and would walk into almost any other Premier League team. Grealish would walk into the United team.
‘Tottenham tried to get him not long ago and he’d walk into their team right now as well. I can’t explain to people how good this kid is.
‘Aston Villa lost 6-1 to Manchester City and he was the only one who still had time on the ball.
‘His composure is something else. I don’t understand why clubs aren’t queuing up to try and sign him.’
