Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang told Arsenal career is over & to expect captaincy removal

Chris Sutton believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal career looks over under Mikel Arteta and should now be stripped of his captaincy.

The club skipper was left out of Arsenal’s squad for their Premier League game against Southampton due to a disciplinary breach.

Mikel Arteta confirmed the decision before kick-off. The Spaniard said: “Unfortunately due to a disciplinary breach. I think we have been very consistent that we have certain non-negotiables in the team that we have set ourselves as a club, and he’s not involved today.”

Aubameyang’s future has been up in the air recently and this incident could be the last straw for the Gabon international.

And Sutton says his Gunners career is coming to an end as long as Arteta is at the Emirates and the captain’s armband will be taken off him.

The ex-Blackburn player said on BT Sport Score: “He’s making the rules up as he goes along, players have to adhere to the rules. “The big question is does Aubayemang have a future at Arsenal under Arteta?

Asked if he will remain as captain, Sutton added: “It doesn’t look that way, it’s not a good example to set. The truth is that Arsenal are never far away from a crisis, they have lost three out of the last four. “They have underachieved this season, they need a result today.

When asked if he can see a way back for Aubayemang, the former Chelsea player said: “Not while Mikel Arteta is there.

“What I do find interesting is that Arteta could have kept it quiet, in-house, but he hasn’t done. He knows what’s going to happen now that it’s out in the public domain.

“There’s clearly a rift between the two parties and something has got to give. it will be interesting how this one will be resolved.”
