Barcelona make decision on Ronald Koeman after poor Champions League start

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman looks to have been given a stay of execution at the club after another disastrous Champions League game against Benfica.

The La Liga giants rounded off their worst ever start to a Champions League campaign on Wednesday when they were completely destroyed 3-0 away from home by Benfica.

That followed a 3-0 defeat to Bayern in the opening game of the group stage, and it’s the first time the Spanish side have ever lost their first two matches in the European competition.

Not only that, but Barca have now won only one of their last five matches in all competitions, putting Koeman under huge pressure, but he will remain at the club for now.

Despite several calls for the Dutchman to be sacked at Camp Nou, Marca claim that he will be granted at least one more match to prove himself.

Barcelona head to the capital to face huge rivals Atletico Madrid this weekend, their last game before the international break, and Koeman will reportedly be in charge for that game.

However, the Barca head coach won’t be on the sidelines as he serves the final of his two-game suspension.

The Spanish side are believed to want to appoint a long-term manager when Koeman eventually leaves, and so the international break would give them the window they need to find a suitable replacement

Still, that’s only if they make the decision to sack Koeman, but it is looking increasingly likely that they do so given the recent results.
