Frank Lampard speaks out on Anthony Gordon links to Chelsea

Frank Lampard says he would be ‘naive’ to give assurances that Anthony Gordon will stay at Everton amid Chelsea’s pursuit of the player.

Reports have claimed that the London club are readying a second offer for the 21-year-old and are willing to pay £50m to secure his signature.

Gordon was a shining light for the Toffees last campaign as they narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League.

Lampard says the player is of ‘huge value’ to the team but isn’t willing to rule out his departure yet.

‘Anthony Gordon is an Everton player, and that’s it for me, I don’t want to talk about hypotheticals,’ said the Chelsea legend.

‘He is an Everton player… he has got a huge value to the team. ‘He’s in the squad for tomorrow [to play Nottingham Forest], any chats I have with him are private.’

The Toffees are currently short on options up front after the departure of Richarlison and the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

When asked if the need to sign a striker is greater than the need to keep Gordon, Lampard replied: ‘We need both.

‘You can’t ask me to assure anything, it’ll be naive of me to assure anything. ‘I can’t assure I’ll be here by the end of the window.’
