Alejandro Garnacho hits back at Di Maria in Man Utd vs West Ham clash

Alejandro Garnacho delivered a fitting response to Angel Di Maria through his goal celebration during Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

The scoring at Old Trafford began with a brilliant effort from Rasmus Hojlund, followed by Garnacho doubling United’s lead in the 49th minute with a deflected shot.

Sealing United’s victory, the 19-year-old concluded with a polished finish six minutes before the final whistle.

In a recent interview with TyC Sports, former United winger Di Maria advised Garnacho to refrain from emulating Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal celebrations.

‘The only thing I wouldn’t do is celebrate like Cristiano,’ Di Maria said.

‘I would score the goal and I would do like Messi does. I’ll stick with that.’

Disregarding Di Maria’s counsel, Garnacho, following his first goal against West Ham, sat on the advertising board with his back to the crowd, replicating another iconic celebration from Ronaldo.

This isn’t the first instance of Garnacho facing criticism for adopting Ronaldo’s celebrations this season; Arturo Vidal also expressed disapproval after Garnacho’s impressive overhead kick against Everton at Goodison Park.

‘The only bad thing or what I didn’t understand is why he celebrates like Cristiano?’ said Vidal.

‘He has to make his own name. He is an already great player.

‘It’s good that he is his idol, respect for that, but then he has to make his name. How are you going to celebrate a goal and remember it? I don’t know, celebrate it another way. But it was a great goal, it was a great goal.‘
