Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood will spend a third night in custody as Greater Manchester Police continue their investigation, with the player further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

A statement from GMP on Tuesday read: ‘Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.
‘The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday (30 January) afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
‘He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow (Wednesday 2 February).
‘Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill. ‘Enquiries are ongoing and the victim continues to be offered specialist support.’
Greenwood has already been suspended by United ‘until further notice’ with his imagery also removed from the club’s shop, while Nike and other brands have already cut ties with him.
A fresh statement from the Red devils on Tuesday read: ‘Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind. As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice.’
Greenwood has arranged for his own personal representation for questioning by the police, with United having chose not to provide him legal counsel.
The England international made his debut for the club in 2019 after graduating from United’s academy, which he joined at the age of eight, and last year signed a new four-year deal worth £100,000-a-week.
