Chelsea has been under new ownership for the past two and a half years, with opinions split on their effectiveness.
Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghabli have not impressed everyone during their tenure at Stamford Bridge, although it’s undeniable that they have made significant financial investments. ..Continue Reading
The Blues have spent over £1.5 billion during this period, yet they are still a few key players away from being genuine Premier League title contenders.
Trophies have eluded Stamford Bridge since 2021 and the Club World Cup, a dry spell that would not have been tolerated under Roman Abramovich’s reign.
The sudden announcement of Abramovich being forced to sell the club left many reminiscing about the glory days when Chelsea legends consistently delivered each season.
John Obi Mikel, a key player from those successful years, has been in contact with people close to the former owner and found out that Abramovich is not pleased with how he was ousted from the club.
He said on the Obi One Podcast: “It’s just unfortunate what happened: he lost the football club. I still speak to people close to him and it still pains him. He’s still angry about what happened.
“He’s not happy that he lost his ‘baby’ because Chelsea Football Club was his football club. He really cared about the football club, not just the players but the fans.”
Reports suggest that Boehly and Eghbali have been at odds for some time over various issues related to Chelsea.
It has been claimed that both parties agree that changes are needed regarding the ownership structure, though neither is willing to relinquish their board position.
While there is undoubtedly a strategy in place at Stamford Bridge, the situation is far from ideal. Trophies need to be won soon to maintain the supporters’ confidence in the current leadership.
