Jorginho’s heart remains in Italy and the Chelsea midfielder is dreaming about a return to Serie A this summer window, according to his agent.
The 30-year-old struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League after moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2018 along with his former Napoli head coach Maurizio Sarri.
Jorginho struggled to win over Sarri’s replacement, Frank Lampard, and was highly critical of the Chelsea legend after his sacking last January.
The appointment of Thomas Tuchel has reinvigorated his career, however, and he emerged as a key component of the Chelsea side which won last season’s Champions League, before he played a major role in Italy’s Euro 2020 success.
Despite his importance to Tuchel, it appears likely that Jorginho will return to Italy this summer with a number of Serie A’s top teams interested in signing him.
‘Playing in Serie A is a dream for him and his heart remains here,’ agent Joao Santos told Tuttomercatoweb. ‘As things stand today, he could play for four or five clubs: Milan, Inter, Juve, Roma or Napoli.
‘There are many clubs interested in him. In the past I spoke to PSG, Barcelona and also Milan’s Ricky Massara. I don’t know if the Rossoneri are still interested, though.
‘The fact remains, we can’t do anything now because Chelsea are not allowed to sell, buy or renew contracts.
‘Jorginho has a contract until June 2023, after the World Cup we’ll see about working on a renewal.’
The Blues remain in a state of flux following the UK Government’s decision to seize Roman Abramovich’s assets amid his ties to Vladimir Putin.
As such, Chelsea are currently unable to negotiate new contracts with the players approaching the end of their deals.
