Liverpool give update on Naby Keita’s injury

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has said that he is unsure of the severity of the injury picked by Navy Keita in Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Napoli.

The midfielder went down off the ball with a back problem, and after being attended to, he was stretched off the pitch.

Keita was replaced by Jordan Henderson in a match lost by the visitors after Lorenzo Insigne’s late strike gave Carlo Ancelotti’s men the win.

Ahead of weekend’s top-of-the-table Premier League game against Manchester City, the German said he is unsure on whether Naby Keita will be available.

“It is back, that’s what I heard. I don’t know exactly. We have to wait,” Klopp said.

A statement from Liverpool after the game read: ‘Keita was transferred to a local hospital with the club doctor, where – with the midfielder’s agreement – he underwent a number of precautionary health checks to assess his condition.

‘No decision has yet been taken on when the 23-year-old will be discharged.

‘Liverpool are scheduled to remain in Italy until Thursday morning before flying back to England.’

Since his arrival from RB Leipzig, the 23-year-old has played nine games and might have to wait for his 10th outing.
