Man Utd close to beating Chelsea to £100m Jadon Sancho transfer

Manchester United are close to finalising a £100m move for Dortmund star Jadon Sancho after seeing off competition from Chelsea for the midfielder’s signature.

The 21-year-old was desperate to join the Red devils last summer but United refused to meet Dortmund’s £108m asking price for the wide man, which his club were demanding in a lump fee.

The Bundesliga club have now lowered their valuation to around £100m, £20m of which is add-ons. United attempted to structure the transfer in a similar way last summer but they are only accepting it now because Sancho now has two years to run on his contract.

United were the only team interested in Sancho in 2020 but Chelsea have joined the chase for the winger and Thomas Tuchel will be given enough funds to invest in the club after guiding them to Champions League glory in May.

But, the Times claim that United are very close to capturing Sancho and have already fended off interest from Chelsea for his services.

United feel the decision not to cave into Dortmund’s demands last summer window has been vindicated and they have agreed personal terms with Sancho, meaning the other side of the transfer is a formality.

Solskjaer signed Daniel James for £15m during his first summer at United but he’s wanted a long-term solution to the club’s right wing problems since taking over from Jose Mourinho.

Mason Greenwood made the position his own towards the end of last campaign but United see the player’s future playing through the middle.

The prospect of a front three which consist of Marcus Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho is believed to excite Solskjaer.
