Manchester United continue to monitor potential targets in the summer transfer market, following the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The combined cost of those two signings stands at £133.5 million, but the club is expected to keep spending, with a new centre-forward high on their agenda.
Names such as Benjamin Sesko, Nicolas Jackson, and Ollie Watkins have recently surfaced as possible additions to the squad at Old Trafford. ..Continue Reading
Meanwhile, United are intensifying their pre-season campaign and are currently touring the United States as part of the Premier League Summer Series.
They’re scheduled to play West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton before welcoming Fiorentina to Old Trafford on August 9.
Aston Villa have reportedly informed United that Watkins is not available for transfer, following preliminary discussions as per Sky Sports.
The 29-year-old striker, who represents England at international level, is said to be one of several forwards United have considered, alongside Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Villa are believed to have placed a valuation of around £60 million on Watkins.
However, reports suggest United have yet to make formal contact with Villa regarding the striker’s potential availability.
MEN Sport claims: “There are better options out there. Watkins, who will turn 30 at the end of the year, doesn’t quite align with the club’s push for emerging talent with high res-ale value. In contrast, targeting someone like Benjamin Sesko makes far more sense at this stage.
“Not only does he fit the youthful profile United are prioritising, but with Arsenal no longer in the race the path to securing him is less congested – making it a smarter, more strategic move for the club.”
According to French publication L’Équipe, Liverpool is among a number of teams eyeing Senegalese forward Idrissa Gueye.
The 18-year-old is likely to depart FC Metz only a few months after arriving from Generation Foot.
The outlet also reports that Metz is seeking around €20 million (£17 million) to sell the young talent.
Manchester United, along with Borussia Dortmund, have reportedly been monitoring him for several months. Both clubs are believed to have started talks with his representatives.
MEN Sport claims: “The 18-year-old perfectly embodies the type of young, high-potential talent United are targeting as part of their long-term strategy. His profile aligns with the club’s wider vision of building a squad that can deliver now while also laying strong foundations for the future.”
