Man Utd set to finally sign Raphael Varane in £39m deal this week after ‘rapid’ talks

Manchester United are set to finally complete a £39m move for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane by the end of the week after discussions progressed ‘rapidly’ on Sunday.

The France international returned to Real Madrid training last week but he has made it clear that he wants to join the Red devils as he wants to experience a new challenge in England.

Varane has one year left to run on his deal at the Bernabeu and has told them that he’s not willing to sign an extension, leaving the La Liga club with little option but to cash in.

Real Madrid had hoped to raise as much as £72m for Varane’s exit but Le Parisian claim a £39m deal is close after ‘rapid’ talks between the two teams on Sunday.

It’s claimed the deal could be done by the end of the week, with Varane signing a four or five-year contract at Manchester United.

Varane has reportedly already consulted with an agency to smooth over his move to Old Trafford, with the player keen to help his children settle as soon as possible in England.

The Frenchman will become United’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the £73m arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Varane is expected to slot into the club’s defence alongside skipper Harry Maguire, meaning Victor Lindelof will become the first back-up.

United could sell Jesse Lingard once Varane joins the Premier League giants, as they need to recoup some money after a £110m outlay.

There is also serious speculation over the future of Paul Pogba, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing the midfielder.
