Man Utd star named as ‘the best in the Premier League’ by Solskjaer signing

Ex-Manchester United defender Alex Telles has dubbed one of his former teammates as ‘the Premier League’s finest’ in his respective position.

Telles joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United in the summer of 2020 but struggled to secure consistent playing time at Old Trafford.

He was renowned at previous team Porto for his set piece skills and attacking qualities, and although he made six assists in two seasons with Man United, fans may have been hoping for more.

After spending last campaign on loan with Sevilla, Telles was allowed to find a new team by Erik ten Hag, and signed for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in the summer.

Telles has scored two goals and provided three assists for the Cristiano Ronaldo-led side, including a superb free kick in a 3-1 win over Al Ettifaq in December.

The Brazilian defender, who represented his country at the 2022 World Cup, has been reflecting on his time in the Premier League – and has given his opinion on who the best player in the Premier League in his position.

He told Portuguese outlet Sapo Desporto: “It [joining United] was a mixture of adaptation, and they also have a great player in Luke Shaw – the best left-back in the Premier League.

“In my first year, we shared the games and the place in the starting XI. “We got on really well, he’s a friend of mine. He’s got a lot of quality.

“Under those circumstances, with him having been at the club for a long time, I managed to play 25 games a season. And 50 games at a club like United is good. It was very good for my career.”

Shaw has faced challenges this season at United, grappling with injuries that have impeded his progress.

His Premier League appearances have been limited to just 12 this season, depriving Ten Hag’s team of his contributions both defensively and offensively.

Last month, it was confirmed that a hamstring injury will likely sideline him for the rest of the season.

When healthy, however, he has been a crucial player under Ten Hag’s leadership and has showcased impressive performances under Solskjaer’s tenure.

Having joined Old Trafford almost a decade ago from Southampton in 2014, Shaw may opt to accept a testimonial this summer.
